Dorian Boccolacci's news was not only about racing in late summer 2016. With his 18th birthday, driving license and especially his successful Baccalaureate, the young driver from Var has been busy. With nerves of steel he headed to the Spa Francorchamps circuit for the 6th round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. 2nd in Race 1, he picked up the pace to add another win to his record in Race 2. He is now in 2nd place in the championship.

After his 3rd place during the previous round at Le Castellet, Dorian promised his team to aim for the highest step of the podium at Spa. He kept his word during a weekend where Tech 1 Racing showed a high level of performance.

But between the two events, Dorian faced other challenges. Now aged 18, he quickly completed his training and gained his driving license. Meanwhile, he passed the baccalaureate exams successfully, which is never easy for a driver with a full schedule. With a lot of pride he received his S series Scientific qualification, the most difficult to achieve in France. Free from his other obligations and again focused on racing, he climbed into the cockpit of his Formula Renault 2.0 at the long Belgian track of Spa with undisguised enthusiasm.

With his 2nd fastest time achieved in Qualifying, Dorian was in a good position in Race 1. But the anticipated flight of Max Defourny at the lights, then contact between Will Palmer and Lando Norris delayed his progress. He gave his all to return to his team-mate Hugo De Sadeleer, but had to settle for 2nd place, despite enjoying the celebration on the podium.

"It was a good race. We were able to see the excellent work done by Tech 1 Racing on this circuit. After a great qualifying, we secured the double and I rejoice, because I got the better of Max Defourny and Harrison Scott, my direct rivals in the general classification. I hope to start again tomorrow, swapping places with Hugo!"

Qualifying on Sunday morning went a little worse than Saturday, but Dorian was still in 4th position. Careful at the start and on the first lap to avoid collisions, he then went on the attack and did not intend to let De Sadeleer be in front of him again on the finish line. The duel between the team-mates was tough! Dorian however imposed his will and flew to victory in front of Norris.

"It's always a great pleasure to win! The day before, my engineer had challenged me to do better than my 2nd place in Race 1. I took him at his word and that's what I did! It was a pretty wild ride, I went 4tg and I managed to take the lead after a good fight with Hugo, my team-mate, whom I congratulate for his weekend. Tech 1 Racing did an amazing job and I hope we can be just as strong at Estoril!"

The balance of the Spa weekend is extremely satisfying as Dorian climbed to 2nd place in the provisional standings of the Eurocup. A place he will defend in late October at Estoril, although victory on the track remains, as always, his priority.
